Whilst creating my four products (two front covers and two contents page) I created them on Photoshop utilising the array of tools on the Adobe software. For example, whilst editing my pictures, I brightened them and darkened them according to the representations I wished to devise: brightening the pictures of my female model to enhance the sharpness of the images and to create an ultimately feminine representation whilst darkening the images of the male models in order to create stark images and henceforth a more masculine portrayal and representation. I used the eraser tool to remove the shadows surrounding the images of the models and I used corrector tools such as the ‘spot healing brush tool’, ‘patch tool’ and the ‘red eye’ tool to amend any red eyes and blemishes whilst keeping any natural blemishes such as freckles and moles to aspire to the natural and candid representations of my models I wished to create.
I also used the ‘magnetic lasso tool’ to copy Jack’s head for my front cover as the masthead ‘TELOS’ was supposed to sit behind his head and therefore become obscured by his head to intimate that the brand identity of certain magazines is so established that the opportunity for an obscured masthead is favoured and I wished for my magazine to mirror this. For the majority of the sell lines, cover lines and incentives on the front cover of my magazines and their contents pages I used the ‘magic wand tool’ to remove the white background surrounding the texts that I’d derived from the website ‘DaFont’ which created a pristine and sharp selection of text to align with the formality and synergy of my front covers.
Whilst including the images for my contents pages, I utilised the ‘stroke overlay’ tool to compile borders around my images to separate them; I ensured they were all the same size and of the same colour to further this synergy across all four products. Whilst maintaining the same colours across my four products I used the ‘eyedropper tool’ to copy and paste the exact shade of colour needed to maximise this synergy. Finally, whilst including shapes across both of my front covers and contents pages, I included various ‘shape tools’ such as the ‘rectangle tool’ and ‘ellipse tool’.
