In the first image of Jack, whilst the framing of the image and his gesture code achieved my intentions of portraying him in a masculine and attractive manner, his posture looked too forced and superficial, therefore not creating a natural representation of Jack’s character which is what I’m relying on for the front covers of my magazines. This masculine persona and gesture code is continued into the third image of Jack, however, I’m not using it as my front cover as it looks as though he’s nervously smiling which doesn’t represent the confident and powerful representation of TELOS’ male models I wish to devise. Finally, it was difficult to determine whether I should use image six or image seven for my front cover as the gesture codes Jack withholds for both of the images represented exactly what I wanted to convey on my magazine cover: a masculine, gritty, stark and powerful image which naturally presents Jack as a male (with positively stereotypical traits). This will inspire the readers of my magazine and motivate them to reciprocate his portrayal of masculinity whereby he is attractive, strong and serious, with a great fashion sense. Conclusively, I decided to use the sixth image as it displays more of Jack’s attire as after all, the magazine is primarily about fashion and how it’s carried off. In terms of dynamism I photographed Jack whilst he was stationary as I believed this naturally captured his stark masculinity and any movement may have removed this fluidity. Intricately, I directed Jack to place his hand in his pocket with his thumb displayed to create a casual appearance and the camera captured this beautifully: his arm looks as though it’s just been placed in his pocket and as though he isn’t standing amidst a photoshoot but rather as though he’s been caught in real life. Whilst photographing Jack I ensured I took the picture full-frontally to accentuate his stark masculinity and to create a striking and imposing image; this is perfect for the front cover of my magazine.
