The equipment will be a necessity whilst taking pictures of my three models: Blay, Hannah and Jack. The backdrops whilst taking pictures were crucial as they allowed me to convey different messages, tones and motifs for each model and the fashion they are representing, whilst ensuring the images all correlate with my chosen house style. For example, for my images of Hannah I utilised a yellow backdrop and a cream backdrop to judge which image looked more professional and created the GLAMOUR-esque, bubbly, chic and casual look I was hoping for: the yellow backdrop achieved this goal. Hannah’s attire: dungarees, yellow jacket and pink Reebok shoes popped against the yellow backdrop and achieved an eye-catching image which adhered to my initial intentions of my first front cover. Additionally, whilst photographing Jack, I utilised the cream background as this complimented Jack’s black and dark blue attire and made the image look starker and therefore more masculine. This created a juxtaposition for my two front covers: the image of Hannah combined with the yellow backdrop appears very effeminate and bubbly and the image of Jack combined with the cream backdrop appears masculine and imposing. Whilst taking these images, I incorporated a full power light facing the model reflecting light through the umbrellas and and a half-powered light behind the model, again, helping to reflect the light successfully to get the ‘right’ picture. With my images of Hannah, I used a reflector that she held across her chest to reflect the light even more intensely, allowing close-up pictures to elaborate every feature she had on her face and make it as visible, bright and clear as possible. The controlled studio environment really aided my ability to take high quality pictures, which after all, are what make or break a magazine cover, so I was adamant I’d get very good images.

When it came down to taking Blay’s pictures, I utilised the natural light from the sun to make the pictures look high quality. I took the pictures on a Nikon D3400 DSLR camera which took very good picture. Following this, as I had a lack of equipment for these pictures (apart from the camera) I edited my pictures of Blay on photoshop which included editing light and removing/adding shadows to make the image pop etcetera to give it an equally masculine and feminine tone.
