FRONT COVER 1 JPEG.jpg

The masthead ‘TELOS’ covers the top of the magazine cover and creates a sophisticated pedestal for the magazine, initially, which represents the institution as high-class and astute. The additional information, including the barcode, website address, ‘autumn edition’ and the location the magazine was created (‘Westminster, London’) further creates a professional persona for the magazine. I’ve intentionally placed the sell line beginning “best of both…” on Jack’s t-shirt to make it overt through the lexis and the non-linguistic information which is derived from the image of Jack to intimate that the outfit he’s wearing is an example of an outfit that can take you “from the gym to the gin”. The introduction of ‘Blay Burgin’ sits diagonally to “fashion's new energy Jack Berwick” and this is effective as it communicates to the reader that Jack and Blay have a lot to say regarding homosexuality and the diagonal positioning of the lexis portrays this connection. The cover line “homophobia” has been purposely situated near Jack’s crotch to raise the fact that your sexual organs don’t necessarily represent your sexual orientation; this is a very subtle feature but I believe adds to the effect of the lexis within the cover line. The sell line “the best shoes to buy this autumn” has been intentionally positioned beside Jack’s mid-section to elaborate the fact that Jack’s shoes aren’t visible on the front cover. This acts as a teaser for the readership; hence why it’s featured in the middle of the front cover.
