Why I Chose Jack:
I am choosing Jack as my model for my magazine’s front cover as he is naturally stylish (alike Blay and Hannah) and this means he has the ability to carry off the outfit I will choose for him. His appearance corresponds with the tone I’m hoping to create for my magazine: his stark masculinity is captivating and will therefore devise a striking tone for the front cover of my magazine; he isn’t too masculine though, he won’t exclude femininity from the magazine and the front cover will subtly reflect Blay’s homosexual status (representing a different social group) which will be found on the contents page and website. This well-rounded front cover will evoke a sophisticated, GQ inspired magazine and house style, enticing an audience to engage with the reading and visual material. Jack will be wearing formally casual attire to represent the contemporary fashions and styles of a heterosexual male, which will inspire the 16-25-year-old demographic which are my target audience. The image on a magazine is crucial and serves as the primary incentive to readers and determines whether the magazine is worth buying or not.
Clothing Decisions:
I reached a decision about clothing by considering which contemporary attires I haven’t featured on my magazine front covers and contents pages yet. For example, Hannah on the front cover of one magazine represents adolescent, bubbly, chic and casual fashion with a subtle sporty tone (the pink Reebok shoes) which is commonly associated with teenagers and Blay on one of the contents pages will be representing gender neutral attire which is very sport-orientated. I have realised that what’s associated with masculine and male, heterosexual clothes must been accounted for and represented on my other front cover as well, and to achieve my ethos, these clothes need to reflect Jack’s personality and charisma. I have decided to illustrate this with a Ralph Lauren t-shirt, dark blue jeans and a watch which combine to create a sophisticatedly simplistic look which is easy on the eyes and captivates an audience and evokes interest from the readers and potential buyers; with the intention that they’ll reciprocate the outfits featured within the magazine.
Props' Decisions:
I have reached a decision regarding props: I will polish Jack’s masculine and raw appearance with a watch which implies intelligence and offers a non-linguistic implication that paints Jack as not just attractive and fashionable, but also smart; creating a model who is in contact with reality; maximising the relationship between the magazine imagery and content and the readership.
