Hannah's Gesture Codes:

In the first image where Hannah is wearing a yellow jacket, denim dungarees and pink Reebok shoes, her facial expression paints a candid representation of the model and therefore acting as an incentive for Telos Magazine’s target audience to purchase the magazine and read the content inside the magazine which will as reveal Hannah as a person. I have decided to not feature this image on my front cover as her facial expression and the positioning of her body isn’t in contact with the readers; therefore subtly disengaging them. However, I believe the connotations surrounding her gesture code whereby her elevated facial position and delicately positioned arms evoke an honest, natural and open representation of the model and I will use this image on my website instead. I didn’t choose the ninth image of Hannah as it only includes her face and shoulders and this isn’t the sole focus of my magazine; it doesn’t represent fashion wholly; I want to include an image on the front cover of Telos Magazine which focusses on the fashion of Hannah from head to toe. I have chosen to use the second image for my font cover over the fifth image: in the second image, Hannah’s arm graciously aligns with the angle of her left leg and her tilted head which looks effortless and therefore represents her as a bubbly and happy model; portraying Telos Magazine as an institution which represents beauty and fashion in a candid manner. Whilst the fifth image still represented the magazine’s ethos through the model’s gesture code, Hannah’s smile looks superficial and as though the photographer has ordered her to smile, rather than her actually smiling realistically as is shown in the second image. I incorporated a ‘1,2,3…’ convention whilst photographing Hannah. This technique involved me asking her to close her eyes for three seconds and then open them ready for another picture to be taken; this means her eyes have a new layer of water over them allowing the camera to reflect this and make her eyes appear brighter, encapsulating Hannah’s attractiveness and effeminate glow, perfect for the front cover of my magazine.
