Lighting is absolutely vital when it comes to getting the ‘right’ image. It’s a key instrument when considering how light and shadows are cast and what mood and tone this creates. I want to create one image which is very effeminate, beautiful and bubbly. I want to create another image which consists of masculinity and femininity equally and evokes a sporty mood. My final image is to devise a masculine, sophisticated and heterosexual image (these are all portrayed through the use of lighting, backdrops and clothing). I shot Jack from above to cast a sterner and starker shadow on his face to make him appear raw and gritty; Hannah was lit from behind to create softer light which compliments the femininity I’m wishing to evidently portray and when taking close-up images of her, I would ensure she held the reflector across her chest to maximise the amount of light reflected onto her face, highlighting every detail of her face for a high quality image. When photographing Blay, I took the picture in a position where the sun was setting on him to carry out the gritty image, but I also utilised a flash from the camera to make the image look softer so as to not make the image look too similar to Jack’s as they are intimating different messages and differen tones.
